All eye exams includes a check-up of all parts of the eye. Specifically, we check for glaucoma, cataract detection, corneal disease, etc., and provide an updated glasses prescription. We also evaluate for dry eyes and allergies that may be affecting your comfort. In the event that you require a referral to an eye specialist, we will co-ordinate care and communicate with your other health professionals appropriately to ensure you are seen as soon as possible. Technology has improved our ability to provide you with the most advanced eye care. For example we offer the Optomap Retinal Exam and OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). The optomap exam is fast, painless and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye at any time. It is suitable for the whole family. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. With OCT, each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen, allowing your Optometrist to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with diagnosis and provide treatment guidance for glaucoma and retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
